We spent last weekend in Orlando with the ILs.  It went really well.  Maya was super cute the day we arrived and the next, but Saturday night she did not sleep well and ended up with a fever.  Apparently we cannot visit Orlando without contracting some illness.  Boo.  The fever came and went for the next few days, and Tuesday we visited the Doctor.  Maya had double ear infections, so off to the pharmacy for Amoxicillin we went!  I felt pretty good knowing this is her first ever ear infection.  She had her initial dose of antibiotic before bed, and woke up in the morning with splotchy face and a rash forming on her torso.  So, back to the Doctor we went.  I was afraid she might be reacting to the Amoxicillin, since penicillin allergies are pretty common.  Turns out she had Roseola on top of the ear infections.  I must say I was relieved that she has no known allergies to date.

Maya’s really trying hard to say new words.  “Moo” is finally recognizable as such (used to be “mmmm”), and I think I heard a “mom” the other day.  Or maybe I just wanted to.  It’s funny that since she’s figured out how to say “meow” she never says “cat” anymore.  She’s also getting really frustrated with her inability to communicate with us.  Some days she just totally flips out because I can’t figure out what she wants.  Fortunately it doesn’t happen too often, but I’ll be glad when she can finally ask for what she needs.

I finally heard back about that job I interviewd for (like, a month later).  Turns out there is now a hiring freeze in place.  This does not make me feel warm and fuzzy.  This also means Eugene will have to pick up a lot more teaching in order for us to make ends meet.  Fortunately the next couple of months are busy ones, so that should be relatively easy.  Now to figure out health insurance.  Again.  Eugene interviewed for a position, but it turns out they’re not planning to fill it until January.  Here’s hoping the other candidates aren’t interested in moving in the middle of the academic year.  And that they offer decent money.

All things considered, it could be a lot worse.
